No, that is the point -

It is valid.

BUT, the little letter macros muck it up during reordering...

So, this -

print "\Usome\lthing\Lsomethingother\E\n";
print "\Usomething\Lsome\uthingother\E\n";

Doesn't work as expected.  Feature Bug.
