True, but sometimes questions are asked without the full context.  That is,
the question may have really been: "I'm in the middle of a big Perl program,
and need to do this one thing...".  In that case, sticking to the language
at hand would be a benefit.  Of course you can still do a system call from
Perl for your one line.  But keeping it in native Perl is easier to read
(and more portable).
