The appropriate Un*xism would be to run "stty -echo", then "stty
echo".  "stty raw" sets a lot of things you wouldn't want to (like
ctrl-M, often generated by your enter key, doesn't get translated to
newline, so it doesn't terminate the line).

Dunno nothing about the Mac.
