But that has no beneficial effect on objects created by existing code.  Which is
all objects, in my application; I'm writing a utility package to which other
people pass Entry objects, which are created by a wide variety of code I didn't
write.  In theory I could ask all those authors to change their code to call my
new subclass instead.  But they would just sneer.  And rightly so.
