Yes, of course you're right. After realizing my error (unfortunately just after hitting "send"), I worked up a 'use Benchmark' script to demonstrate it. Bottom line: all of the one-liners are significantly slower than the original two line '.=' appender, no matter what concatenation method is used. (String interpolation is definately the slowest, tho.)
