No. Modules that come with Perl I mostly just trust, and perhaps read
at leisure. For other modules, it's various criteria--well-known name,
trust it more, etc. Combine with an intuitive judgement based on its
looks. Modules which are very important to your job--in my case, LWP
etc--you sit down and read somewhat carefully. Of course I don't have
a strangeness checker. And often I find "strange" behaviour very late.

I don't think CPAN is in that sorry a state.
