You're both right -- I have both the Perl Cookbook and
perlfaq4.  In fact:

   perldoc -q unique

yields copious information on how to unique things :)  (And the
sad thing is that I've read both sections in the past.)

Thanks for the benchmarks -- another reminder to just keep it
simple...

why sort would think unique_list(@list) was the sort function,
