There is a certain species of people who talk millennial, systematize beyond their means, and are impractically fastidious. They typically hold tacit opinions such as: Lisp is simple and the model of thought, XML will provide the ultimate codification of human knowledge for all futurity, English syntax is the archetype of all languages, category theory will solve all mathematical problems, etc etc. This constricts their world to something so ridiculously limited that they go through life constantly surprised and grossed out by glimpses of reality. I don't think this points to any refined aesthetics. It's hubris, plain and simple. It's a throwback to the kind of metaphysics people produced when their world WAS small and uniform. Well, now it's about 500 or so years later. If you can't put up with the fact that dirty systems rigged by "uneducated" hackers keep on working, or dirty languages empower high- school kids, third world programmers, women, humanities students, what have you...then shut up.
