limnophilous

thriving in ponds or stagnent water

limnophilus,-a,-um (adj. A).

     French - limnophile
     German - *limnophil
     Spanish - limnófilo

OVERSTUFF, OVERSTUDY, SUPERSTUD, and UNDERSTUDY contain the alphabetical
sequence -rstu-. The only other four-letter alphabetical sequence found in
English is -mnop-, which is found in LIMNOPHILOUS, GYMNOPAEDES,
GYMNOPAEDIC, GYMNOPHIONA, GYMNOPHIONA, GYMNOPHTHALMATA, GYMNOPLAST,
PRUMNOPITYS, SEMNOPITHECUS, SOMNOPATHY, THAMNOPHILE, THAMNOPHILUS, and
THAMNOPHIS. If we allow spaces and hyphens there are also FILM NOIR and
STAR-STUDDED. Jim Cook says WEAPONMAKING and (WEAPONMAKER), which contain
-mnop- backwards, are probably the only words containing a four-letter
sequence that is exactly in reversed alphabetical order. HIJIKI (a type of
seaweed) is a 6-letter word consisting only of letters in the sequence H,
I, J, K. STRUV (an old past tense of STRIVE in the OED) consists only of
letters in the sequence R, S, T, U, V.
