I have it set to 50 Mb.

I tried // after reading your mail, and it worked.
But the number of slashes was not the reason.

I have the script with /// saved.  When I open the file and run it, 
it crashes.
If I open the file and changed it before running, it works.

Either // or /// works.  As long as I make a change to the script 
after opening it. The TooleServer gets up in both case though.

Very strange.

I am running 8.1 on G3 266.
The version of LWP::UserAgent is
