<x-flowed>I'm working on a web site search engine that seems to run okay, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to order the results by relevancy. Does anyone know how this is done by the commercial portals? It would be easy enough to take the search string and count the number of times that it appears in a given document, but this gets fuzzy when you are dealing with "or" searches. It also seems to me that a weighting scheme that went beyond a raw count of occurrences would be entirely arbitrary, but maybe that's true of weighting schemes in general. Anyway, suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
