I've stopped using perl for cgis on mac with any webserver but the MacPerl Webserver. It's really nice, but has problems with pages with more than a couple of images, so I mostly use any webserver (including the builtin) and run the MacPerl webserver on a different port just for cgis > Good luck and let me know if you ever figure this out.
