As with most client-side applications, there are always security
concerns with browser implementations.

Netscape invented the non-universal way of doing things on the Web.
Remember the Made for Netscape images? As with most of the Web, JS
is messy. The different DOMs are messy. There's no choice except
to just deal with it, if your project requires it.

There are ways to stay backward-compatible with legacy browsers,
and eventually everyone will upgrade (within five years). Log files
should indicate a clear trend.
