This is a bus error and means the computer tried to access memory that doesn't exist. You can get this error on almost any Macintosh. Maybe the TCP/IP version you are using is causing this error -- or a misbehaving system extension? But this is just a speculation. Under OS 8.6 with TCP/IP 2.0.3, I can't remember that I've got this error. Sorry, but I have no further ideas. >Some >times it starts up fine. Do I need to upgrade to some other version of Macperl. Where did you get MacPerl from -- Download.com/CNET? The actual version is 5.2.0r4 (17-Apr-98). The best place to download MacPerl is the FTP master site in Zürich/Switzerland: ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/software/platform/macos/perl/Mac_Perl_520r4_appl.bin (~ 3.6 MB) Sooner or later you will want to install additional modules. For this you will also need the CFM 68K (Code Fragment Manager) version of the MacPerl application, because the modules are loaded as shared libraries: ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/software/platform/macos/perl/Mac_Perl_520r4_appl_cfm68K.bin (~ 1.3 MB) You will also need the following files if you are running System 7 (Mac OS 8 includes these files): CFM-68K Runtime Enabler (version 4.0), the ObjectSupportLib (version 1.2) and the AppleScriptLib (version 1.2.2). These files are not part of the MacPerl distribution. You will need at least System 7.1 and 32-bit addressing turned on. Ok, back to CGI. In your MacPerl folder there should be a folder 'MacPerl CGI' with 4 files in it (Demo.cgi etc.). There should also be a folder 'MacPerl Extensions' with 2 files in it. One is called 'CGI Script' and has a suitcase icon. If this file isn't present, you are out of luck -- you can't save your scripts as CGI Script. Get a newer MacPerl version. >That's about all.
