[MacPerl] ANNOUNCE: Searchable Hypermail Archive of MacPerl mail

MacPerlers,

With Matthias' permission, I am pleased to announce that all macperl list
mail since about March 1995 is publically available for browsing and
keyword searching via the World Wide Web at:

    http://www.its.unimelb.edu.au:801/hma/pub/macperl/

Features:
* mail is published to a "current" digest as it arrives
* all URLs in mail messages are "live"
* mail is browsable by thread, date, subject, or author
* boolean searches (supports ANDed terms on same line or anywhere in message)
* phrases, and regex patterns, are supported
* partial or whole word match control
* case sensitivity control
* can limit search to subject lines and author names
* output by rank (most matches first) or rough chronology (as found in index)
* can output subject lines only, or show matched lines with text highlighted
* can output whole messages for "all-in-one" browsing or printing
* reasonably fast (most searches respond within 5-10 seconds)
* "smart" reindex daily (only the subject, author and body are indexed)
* digests are kept to around 100 messages each for fast downloads

Forthcoming:
* addition of all messages prior to March 1995

Acknowledgements: Thanks to the authors of procmail, hypermail and glimpse.
This service would not be possible without such publically available tools.

Note: Performance over the next few weeks may be sluggish due to a heavy
proxy serving load on our document serving machine. This (I pray) will be
temporary only.

Please direct suggestions or bug reports to me by private email.

Hope you all like it.

Cheers,

Sandra Silcot
