I was at the Mactivity/Web conference in San Francisco earlier this week, and StarNINE announced (among other things) a plug-in architecture for the WebSTAR server. While I can't say I completely understand this architecture, it seems to me they're creating plug-in code modules that allow CGI sorts of activity ... without relying on AppleEvents to communicate. That seems to be significant for a couple of reasons. First off is that the 32k limit to AE messages would no longer apply. Second, the speed increase could be massive. Can anyone shed any more light on this? Most importantly, can anyone predict whether a MacPERL-interpreter-plug-in is feasible? Comments and/or corrections are welcome. -- matt. jar@dnai.com
