I'm no expert on them, but basically XFCNs and XCMDs are run-time 
loadable modules that were originally designed to work with HyperCard.  
MacPerl emulates enough of the HyperCard interface and callbacks to allow 
many XCMDs and XFCNs to work with MacPerl as well.  There are many 
shareware and public domain XCMDs and XFCNs available at various sites, 
usually in HyperCard section (understandably...).
