[MacPerl] gd.c on a Mac

Hi,

I am trying to do so development work on my mac that will be eventually
ported to Unix. I'd like to use the gd library in c to make some gifs on
the fly. Has gd been ported to the mac and can it be called from MacPerl 5?
Also, can someone point me to an example of how to call c routines from 
MacPerl 5?
