Use a recent version of ALPHA.
The ALPHA-Perl mode is quite nice and has the option "Prompt For Args".

If you activate perl-menu for text-mode windows, you can use simple
scripts like
        #!perl -p
        tr /A-Z/a-z/;
for filtering like STDIN/STDOUT in UNIX with the "use buffer as filter"
feature .
