BBEdit (and a number of other programs) support menu sharing. Frontier
uses this extensively to, among other things, use bbedit to edit frontier
scripts in the frontier ODB. If MacPerl could be made to support menu
sharing, then perhaps you'ld have a direct solution to your problem without
using the finder.

The menu sharing code is part of the frontier sdk with is free.

The frontier LTODBS (http://www.acornsw.com/root.html) has a CodeWarrior
class that provides Menu sharing for applications.
