BBEdit (and a number of other programs) support menu sharing. Frontier uses this extensively to, among other things, use bbedit to edit frontier scripts in the frontier ODB. If MacPerl could be made to support menu sharing, then perhaps you'ld have a direct solution to your problem without using the finder. The menu sharing code is part of the frontier sdk with is free. The frontier LTODBS (http://www.acornsw.com/root.html) has a CodeWarrior class that provides Menu sharing for applications.
