Have you tried Matthias' Perl Anarchist's Cookbook?

I am considering writing some routines and maybe a module to make
AppleEvents easier and more accessible. But on the other hand, if I did
that, it would not be very flexible; in order to get the most functionality
you'd still have to use the normal AE routines. So I don't think I will do
this. But I might. As I finish up Anarchie.pm I'm going to step back and
take a look at it and MacPGP.pm and see if I can find a way to simplify
them. Maybe another module will be warranted.

Regardless, Matthias' cookbook is essential to understanding this stuff; if
you have any questions beyond what is contained in that, I'd be happy to
consider them. I can't guarantee I know the answer ...
