Re: [MacPerl] CPAN compatibilty?

"J. Linder" <jann@jann.com>:

}Does any version of CPAN work with macperl?

My *God* that thing is big. 3500 lines of Perl and pod, and it "use"'s
most everything else. I hope you gave MacPerl a *lot* of memory. (And I
didn't even look at the stuff in the CPAN directory, only CPAN.pm.)

I count two forks, and both do nothing useful if the fork fails. So IMHO,
no, it won't run under MacPerl without a lot of work. Doing the work is a
waste of time, again IMHO, because without make, you can't really automate
the installation of modules anyway. At most you might be able to get it to
tell you what you're behind on. And it looks like CPAN.pm would be
happiest under 5.004 anyway.

Far easier just to follow comp.lang.perl.modules for module announcements
and check in at your nearest CPAN site on the status of your favorite
modules. (Or find your nearest Unix machine and "perl -MCPAN -e shell" on
it. It's almost always easier to install under Unix and then copy the
resulting files from /whereever/site_perl/* to the Mac.)

}
}I have macperl 5.1.x (oct, 1996) and am trying to run CPAN (to update my
}modules...etc) and it locks macperl.
}
}Any suggestions?
