According to Jon S. Jaques: > > Again, even Fetch isn't even good enough to be "2nd rate." It seems to me > that if nobody has written fool proof FTP for the Mac yet, that it may not > EVER happen. Fetch, the current version, is quite capable of handling all sorts of file transfers. I've developed two large scale database applications using MacPerl. Then I transferred them over to SGI Unix boxes without a hitch. Now the databases on the other hand had to be converted since they were all in packed binary format. But text - no problem. Somewhere around 100 routines in both programs. Not a glitch. It's got to be that old IBM vs Mac problem getting in the way. My wife has this problem sometimes. She tries to make the Mac do things the IBM way and this causes her no end of problems. She becomes very very frustrated because of it. In fact, she became so distraught trying to make the Mac do something that I actually had to write her a letter and have it come up every time the computer was booted asking her not to treat the Mac like she would an IBM. So, if you are getting frustrated over how to do something on the Mac. Or if you are upset over something the Macs have done which would not have happened on an IBM. Just remember - it's not an IBM and will never be an IBM. Just like an IBM is a IBM and never will be a Mac. IBM people say "Thank god for that!" and Mac people say "Thank god for that!". Because that's just how most people are. We each love our machine and really dislike the other brand. Simply because it just doesn't work in the manner we are accustomed to. ***** Want to unsubscribe from this list? ***** Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to mac-perl-request@iis.ee.ethz.ch
