[MacPerl] Displaying numbers in HTML

I don't know how active this list is, but maybe someone can help me.  I
want to display a number in the middle of an HTML doc, but not in
graphical form.  The number will change periodically, so I am using a
cgi script to change the text file where the number is stored.  Is there
an easier way to accomplish this than converting the entire HTML doc to
a cgi script and placing it in my cgi-bin?
