[MacPerl] Bug report 5.16r4: File::Basename broken because length() is broken

File::Basename broke on me after I installed 5.16r4 on my Powerbook and
started running my updaters to resurrect the current libnet and LWP. The
reason is the following:

$basename = "FTP";

print length($basename)."\n";

This gives 0. Ouch. This is only broken in CFM68k MacPerl, so far as I
know. It works just fine on my wife's G3. I have not yet tried BigMacPerl,
but that's the obvious next step.
