Dear People: As you may be aware, Vicki Brown and Chris Nandor are hard at work on "MacPerl: Power and Ease", PTF's upcoming book/CD product. More than half of the chapters are available for perusal on the MacPerl Pages (http://www.ptf.com/macperl). We hope to have the finished product available by April. Meanwhile, Vicki and I have created Version 0.5 of the PTF MacPerl CD- ROM. (Version 1.0 will ship with the book.) We started with the "Perl Developer's Kit" (2nd. edition), from ADVICE Press, added lots of handy Macintosh utilities, then indexed and Macintized the results. The disc, IMHO, is really pretty cool. Most of the CPAN (Comprehensive Perl Archive Network) has been unpacked and indexed, letting you browse modules (for instance) by author name (first and/or last), category, or module name. There is also a set of HTMLized POD text for modules, tons of other documentation, lots of useful Macintosh utilities, the latest version of MacPerl (5.1.9r4), and many other goodies. For more details, including ordering information, please visit: http://www.ptf.com/macperl/ptf_book/cdrom.html Yours, Rich Morin President, PTF P.S. Getting from the Unixish ADVICE disc to the Macintized version was "a simple matter of software": about two months of sustained effort and more than 2K lines of Perl, with quite a bit of help from good folks like Chris Nandor, Doug McNutt, and Matthias Neeracher!
