Well, I would probably try to allow a program like Thumbnail to do the work
for me and talk to it with Apple Events.  But GD.pm (that comes with
MacPerl) does image resizing, and with Mac::Resources, Mac::Memory, and
maybe Mac::QuickDraw you could do something there.  I don't know how you
would convert from GIF ot JPEG to a format used by the ICN#/icl8/etc.
