But although you've given me the solution to my problem (delete
the preferences file; perhaps I could get away with just nuking
STR# resource 129 from the preferences file), I'm still wonder-
ing about the answer to my question: when does MacPerl read the
user name into the preferences file? At installation, first in-
vokation, first time user sets preferences, first reference to
$ENV{USER}, or some other time?
