I think those are documented somewhere on Apple's site. And actually, it is not 'TEXT(\@)', it is "TEXT(\@)" or 'TEXT(@)', for reasons the astute observer can gather for themselves. :) Another special case is alis(@@). In both cases, it is sorta like using printf(). TEXT(@) says "a text argument follows", and alis(@@) says "a file alias follows". The "why" I think is so it is easy to embed the info. For text, for example, there are only two other ways to do it. One is to embed it with рс, which is unsafe. The other is to make an extra call to add a parameter of type TEXT, which is an extra step, and we don't want to make an extra step. -- Chris Nandor mailto:pudge@pobox.com http://pudge.net/ %PGPKey=('B76E72AD',[1024,'0824 090B CE73 CA10 1FF7 7F13 8180 B6B6']) #== New Book: MacPerl: Power and Ease ==# #== Publishing Date: Early 1998. http://www.ptf.com/macperl/ ==# ***** Want to unsubscribe from this list? ***** Send mail with body "unsubscribe" to mac-perl-request@iis.ee.ethz.ch
