[MacPerl] Loading into memory

Is there a way to reserve a portion of memory and then load a variable into
that? I have a ~10MB file I would like to load into a hash and manipulate
directly, and there are portions at the middle and end of the file which relate
to portions nearer the beginning. As it is, I have to read it in and print it
out a line at a time, and there is no easy way to backtrack.

TIA, dj
