While this is still a good thing to do, there may not be a problem. The symptoms the original poster described are consistent with a malloc library that doesn't return it's arena to the OS when it's done with it. The key is to run the script in question multiple times. If MacPerl's memory allocation goes up each time, there may be a leak somewhere, but if it just goes up once and then stays the same, that's probably ok.
