548 is the port where AFP-over-TCP/IP lives (AFP == Apple Filesharing
Protocol, I believe).  But, of course, you won't find many servers
running there.  (This may be a case where you'll find more such
servers on Unix machines than on Macs.  Both my Suns have one, but my
Mac, of course, doesn't, unless I bother to put netatalk up on the
LinuxPPC side of my machine.)

There's also an interesting list of assigned ports which can be found at
<http://www.isi.edu/in-notes/iana/assignments/port-numbers>.
