[MacPerl] How do I flag a tab character

This is probably not really a MacPerl question, but I will ask anyway
and y'all can send the replies off the list if you think it is more
appropriate to do so.

Here is the problem. I wrote a program to create flashcards for
memorization testing. It is at
http://cslinux.sou.edu/~xavier/flashcard. Part of the program is to
test the user and take out all cards tested correctlyl; however, when
the user inadvertantly adds a tab on term, then the program does not
register that the term has been answered correctly even though it has.

So, my question is: how do I flag a tab and get rid of them if I wanted
to. I figure I can use regex to do this, but I do not know the
designation for a tab. (The program actually resides on a Unix box.)

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
