I'm sure that everyone here on the mlist will advise you to get the
brand-new MacPerl book, so I may as well join them, because it is
excellent. It is definitely set up to be accessible to someone who is
learning Perl as their first language. It specifically addresses
web-related issues in addition to other stuff.

I recently learned (or I should say, am learning) Perl using this book, as
well as "Learning Perl," published by O'Reilly (who publishes most of the
core Perl books around). In retrospect, I could have probably done without
the "Learning Perl"--it's good but there isn't much that it covers that
isn't already covered in the MacPerl book.

You can read up on MacPerl, and the book, at http://www.ptf.com/macperl/ .
Also, be sure to check out http://www.perl.com and http://www.perl.org for
more info and links to a wealth of online documentation and FAQs (most of
which is already included with MacPerl and readable with the Shuck app.)
You can also purchase the book online from Developer Depot at

         http://www.devdepot.com/SBDisplayItem.qry?ItemCode=BPERL

Other than that, I would say the most important thing to do is just jump
in and start experimenting. That's crucial with any new language--you
learn a lot from fiddling around and making mistakes.

Good luck--I hope this helps.
