They are not at all impossible to debug, but they are extremely hard to debug remotely. I usually ask for a MacsBug stdlog at the point of the crash, but I already got one for this case, and it wasn't enlightening. If I can reproduce the bug on a Mac in front of me, I'm usually able to zoom in on the problem in reasonable time, but, as I said, I don't have AppleShare IP on any Macs (might consider installing it, though; seems that demo versions are available from Apple's WWW site).
