Here is a draft of a Mini-FAQ for the MacPerl list. It could be posted on a regular (e.g., monthly) basis and sent to new members of the list. Please send any comments to mailto:mp-feedback@ptf.com ... Thanks, Rich MacPerl Mini-FAQ (updated 980629) ================================= MacPerl is a port of Perl 5 to the Macintosh. It runs on both Motorola 68K and PowerPC CPUs, under both the Mac OS Finder and MPW. With the exception of a few Unix-specific and/or multitasking features, MacPerl supports nearly all of Perl 5. In addition, MacPerl provides a variety of Mac-specific features, including access to Apple Events, AppleScript interaction, AppleTalk, and the Mac OS Toolbox. MacPerl is "Open Source" software, freely redistributable in both source and binary form. See the license text for details. MacPerl is the work of Matthias Neeracher (mailto:neeri@iis.ee.ethz.ch), based on the Perl distribution of Larry Wall, et al. MacPerl has an active email list, an introductory/reference book, and a variety of FTP and WWW sites. Your best starting point, in general, will be the MacPerl Pages (http://www.ptf.com/macperl), sponsored by Prime Time Freeware (PTF). The MacPerl Pages are a central repository of Mac- Perl information, pointers, etc. The MacPerl email list is moderated by Matthias Neeracher, who requests (and will enforce!) both civility and a reasonable amount of relevance to MacPerl. To join the MacPerl email list, visit: http://www.ptf.com/macperl/depts/mlist.html or send a message to: mailto:macperl-request@iis.ee.ethz.ch The body of the message should be: subscribe end PTF has published "MacPerl: Power and Ease", an introductory/reference book on MacPerl.
