Fairly early in the life-cycle of Python (and before I knew of Python's existence), a question was asked: "What happens if Guido is hit by a bus?" The question was significant, since Guido van Rossum was (and is) the author and controller of Python, which already had a significant number of people who needed the effort to continue. The result of the question was various changes (including the creation of the "Python Software Activity") which left Guido in control, but ensured that if he vanished for whatever reason, the Python community would go on. Perl was once in a similar position with respect to Mr. Wall (and has moved beyond it, I think). So...in the context of MacPerl: what happens if Matthias is hit by a bus? The sources are available...is that enough? In the context of Matthias, of course, the result would be deplorable. But he might vanish from the MacPerl scene for less drastic reasons (such as having LESS time post thesis rather than more). Question inspired by the recent, and no doubt ongoing "Whither MacPerl" and "We need more evangelism..." threads. --John (wishing Matthias a long and happy life) -- John Baxter jwblist@olympus.net Port Ludlow, WA, USA Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
