But if you go to the Sun Microsystem site or Apple's site you can get a lot of Java stuff including a compiler (Mr. J) for free. So Java isn't really all that far out there if that is what you want/need. There is TCL/TK available for the Mac which you can also suggest as well as Python. However, Perl, MacPerl, and Perl for the IBM can handle (if I remember correctly) GUI interfaces. There is an X Window interface available on CPAN as well as an OpenGL interface (which supposedly works on the IBM too).
