Well, I'm not sure which program, specifically, you were referring to, however I use Suntar 2.0.5 (it's kinda old, so there may be a newer version). It's smart enough to convert the EOLNs between Mac and unix operating systems, plus can encode data and resource forks of Mac binaries. It does this on the fly and seems to work very well in my experiences. It's very configurable and can write to SCSI drives (I've tried), floppies (tried), tapes (not tried), and remotely mounted volumes (not tried). It can also extract a number of archive formats (MacBinary, BinHex, uuencode and PackIt are mentioned, plus of course, tar for Mac, unix and DOS platforms). It's freeware, but I'm not 100% sure where to find it... you can look as well as I can. However, if all else fails you could try the author's email address (from the documentation): speranza@cirfid.unibo.it I often use it to tar up batches of files for ftp to a unix box. Works like a charm. cheers, jay
