To those who want to save some $$, I recommend the following books (in order):

perl man pages (free, come with perl and MacPerl, basis for the
       Programming Perl book)
MacPerl: Power and Ease (Prime Time Freeware)
   Perl Cookbook (O'Reilly)
   Mastering Regular Expressions

I think Perl Cookbook will become extremely valuable to all asipiring and
experienced Perl programmers. It is a great book. They are starting their
second printing now, fixing the first round of errata (which, for your
edification is at
<http://language.perl.com/critiques/ram/errata.1st-printing>).
