At least some of us do it because we come from the Mac, not from Unix, and
we know what the Mac routines do but have to figure out what the Unix/Perl
things do.  And, of course, we can only do it when we have no expectation
that a particular script will migrate to Unix, Windows, or BeOS (or
whatever).

When Rhapsody (MacOS X) is closer to being real, we curmudgeons will have
to rethink that, although the <modern, anyhow> Mac routines will keep on
working in the MacPerl side.
