I settled on a tempo of 250000 with the 'Bad News' voice for my G3/300.

Somebody now needs to write a music composition tool for MacPerl. We need
"Jingle Bells" for the approaching season.

To answer Xah's question, I don't know much about the history of the song,
but it is still used to teach music, or at least it was back when I was
taking music lessons. I distinctly remember playing it, i.e. banging out
the melody, on the piano. We may have even played it during my early days
of junior high band.
