The more I look at the 1.94.4 code, the more I think perhaps it might be 
better to port the 2.0 version.

I'm not as desperate as I was when I started this.  It seems that part of 
the problem I was having was independant of the recalcitrant freeware, 
and only resolvable by contacting my provider (which I've done).  Porting 
Majordomo will continue, because I WANT it, rather than just needing it.
