Well, Arved Sandstrom seems to have a better solution for calling other
perl scripts, but as for talking to other Mac apps, I skipped the
AppleScript junk and went straight to the Apple Events.  It's not that
hard, especially with Mac::Apps::Launch to start the other apps up.  Took
me a couple hours to peruse the Apple Events documentation and figure it
out, but I've probably already saved that time in not waiting for the
AppleScripts to compile!
