I use Apple Events to communicate with, for example, clip2gif (to get WIDTH and HEIGHT data for insertion into HTML files), but the AE's fail if the other app isn't already running. I was in the midst of trying to figure out how to get the Process Manager to launch based on the app's signature when I discovered Mac::Apps::Launch. And lo! Chris had already done my work for me. (Indeed, it seems Chris and Matthias have done nearly all my work for me.
