[MacPerl] trouble installing Mac::OSA::Simple

Hello,

I'm having trouble installing Mac::OSA::Simple 0.51.  Using CPAN-shell.plx
(with MacPerl memory set at 44,000) I get the following output:

-------------
cpan shell -- CPAN exploration and modules installation (v1.47)
ReadLine support available (try ``install Bundle::CPAN'')

cpan> install CNANDOR/Mac-OSA-Simple-0.51.tar.gz
Going to read :.cpan:sources:authors:01mailrc.txt.gz
CPAN: Compress::Zlib loaded ok
Going to read :.cpan:sources:modules:02packages.details.txt.gz
Scanning cache :.cpan:build for sizes

  There's a new CPAN.pm version (v1.48) available!
  You might want to try
    install Bundle::CPAN
    reload cpan
  without quitting the current session. It should be a seamless upgrade
  while we are running...

CPAN: LWP loaded ok

I have Compress-Zlib 1.02 installed (by hand).

When I download the tar.gz file, and try using installme.plx, I get the
following ouput:

----------------
Checking if your kit is complete...
Looks good
Writing Makefile.mk for Mac::OSA::Simple
mkdir :blib
mkdir :blib:lib
mkdir :blib:lib:Mac
mkdir :blib:lib:Mac:OSA::
# mkdir :blib:lib:Mac:OSA::: File exists
File 'Necroscope:Applications:MacPerl Ä:site_perl:ExtUtils:MM_MacOS.pm';
Line 945
-----------------

I went back and tried to install GD using:

cpan> install CNANDOR/GD-1.18-bin-2-MacOS.tar.gz

however I got the same

#Could not gzopen

message.

Any ideas what may be the problems?

TIA
