I know, I know, you could get the number of words by just using the
array in a scalar context. However, I assumed[1] that the proffered
code was going to be used to do something to each word, and the count
step was just a simplification for early testing and easy
posting purposes.

[1] assume = make an _ass_ out of _u_ and _me_
