Matthias, Thank you for the port of Perl to MacOS. I have been a UNIX Perl expert for a few years now. I decided it was time to branch out and start using MacPerl, too. It appears that I do some GUI programming with it. With respect to CFM68k support, I have Quadra 630 that still has alot of life in it. I have been disappointed lately because many software vendors are abandoning the 68k platform in favor of the PPC. I would like to see CFM68K supported for awhile longer. Why? The older 68k machines can go to the kids (for those who have them) or are donated to educational projects or schools. Moreover, we as programming can produce some kiddie programs with the GUI side of MacPerl. I say this because I saw some scripts on the mailing list which I have been trying to run (calculator, 3DBall, etc.) 68040 Macs are still pretty robust for word processing, spread sheets, etc. The other "Perl" about these older machines is that the younger generation can practice programming with them. As a side note, I have been investigating the opportunity to get a cable modem. I have heard that it is wise to put up a firewall. Does a firewall exist which is written in MacPerl? Is it possible to set up a 68040 Mac as a firewall? If yes, how do you do it? For testing of the cfm68k portion, it appears from the response to your question on it, a number of people are standing in line to help you. Once I come up to speed with what is going on, I could also test it. Although I plan to upgrade to a G3 Tower within the next year, I will keep my Quadra 630 for the kids. Thanks for asking.
