Just to confuse matters, I tend to start by saying the above is what it
stands for, but can be easily remembered ( if you're having trouble! )
by ``DataBase Independent'' and ``DataBase Dependent'' which helps describe
the actual underlying architecture.

But yes, I'm also amazed by the lack of concern that publishers and authors
can show. The Dr. Dobbs article is probably still the pinnacle of wrongness!
