[MacPerl] Using ".."

Hello. Can anyone help me with the following problem?

How do you back up a directory using MacPerl? I'm trying to do the
following:
  require "..:file.pl"
I want it to run the contents of "file.pl", which is located in the
directory above the one where the calling script resides. But MacPerl
always says that it can't find the file.

Any ideas?
